Donald Trump is doing his best to gear up for his 2020 reelection campaign. He has a huge kickoff rally tonight in Orlando, Florida and has spent literally millions in social media ads in an attempt to raise some funds. But according to a new report, Donald better hope that a whole lot of people signed and donated to that birthday card of his he was peddling for weeks because one of Trump’s biggest financial supporters from his 2016 campaign has gone completely dark — without a single red cent given to Donald Trump.
Gabriel Sherman with Vanity Fair has reported that hedge-fund tycoon Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebekah Mercer have virtually completely disappeared from the political scene altogether ahead of Donald’s 2020 reelection campaign, as they feel very “disillusioned.”
An insider described as “familiar with the Mercers’ thinking” has stated that the family is quite upset with Trump, as they feel he has repeatedly fallen short of his promises and has not provided the return on their hefty investment that they were expecting.
“They think that the administration could do so much more,” the source stated. “They’ve been very vocal about that to the president.”
A former Trump official also said of the Mercer family, “it’s like they’ve disappeared.”
Gabriel’s source also noted that the hedge-fund family has backed out of the spotlight, as they were not expecting the onslaught of media scrutiny that came with funding the likes of Donald Trump and Breitbart News.
The Mercers used to be financial donors to Sen. Ted Cruz and only switched to Donald in 2016 in an attempt to stop Hillary Clinton from winning the election.
“Trump was just Bob’s play against Hillary,” a former executive at Renaissance Technologies, the hedge-fund where Mercer used to be a co-CEO stated. “Bob said she and her husband were murderers who would destroy the country. He thought she was an evil person and a socialist.”
Do you mean to tell me that Donald Trump didn’t keep his promises? I’m shocked, I tell you. Shocked. But seriously though, perhaps now the Mercers have learned their lesson. Don’t pay for a snake oil salesman to become president.
