American knew it was going to be disappointed in Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, but it seems like the worst of it actually happened beforehand.
It’s just been reported that before the president would give his address, he held a pre-State of the Union lunch with TV anchors and made some extremely disgusting comments – and not even the late Sen. John McCain was off limits.
Truly proving that he has no class, Trump made fun of McCain’s book while at his luncheon in the White House. He said:
By the way, he wrote a book and the book bombed.”
And according to the New York Times, McCain was far from the only target Trump unleashed on. The New York Times wrote:
Mr. Trump dismissed former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. as “dumb,” called Senator Chuck Schumer of New York a “nasty son of a bitch” and mocked Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia for “choking like a dog” at a news conference where he tried to explain a racist yearbook photo, according to multiple people in the room.”
Trump further trashed his potential rivals in the 2020 election, stating that he hopes former Vice President Joe Biden would be his challenger. In a statement full of pure irony, Trump said:
I hope it’s Biden. Biden was never very smart. He was a terrible student. His gaffes are unbelievable. When I say something that you might think is a gaffe, it’s on purpose; it’s not a gaffe. When Biden says something dumb, it’s because he’s dumb.”
While Trump’s comments as a whole are horrific, it is disgusting that he would go after a highly respected Republican Senator like McCain, who is not even alive to defend himself. That alone should make Trump supporters ashamed of the man they’re calling “President.”
