Trump Attacks Foreign-Born Congresswomen On Twitter, Tells Them To Go Back To Countries They Came From

For his next trick, he may just say the N-word.

On Sunday morning, Donald Trump launched perhaps his most offensive attack yet on the Democratic members of Congress who have questioned his fitness for the presidency, using a racial condemnation most of us haven’t heard since we saw it in a movie in the 1980’s.

Reminiscent of the anti-black cries of “Go back to Africa” of the 60’s and 70’s — and heard as recently as 2016 at a Trump rally in Cleveland — Trump shot off a series of tweets that were ostensibly aimed at Rep. Ilhan Omar, who was born in Somalia. Of course, Trump didn’t limit his attack to the singular, calling out plural “Congresswomen,” so it’s entirely possible he believes that more than one of the freshman members of Congress he was attacking were born in other countries.

Most assume that he’s referencing the “fab four” women of color in Congress who have lately made a splash as “Justice Democrats” who do not always necessarily fall in line with Democratic leadership. Those women are of course Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was born in New York City, Ayanna Pressley, who was born in Ohio, Rashida Tlaib, born in Detroit, and Congresswoman Omar — the sole foreign-born member of the “squad.”

Ms. Omar survived her mother dying when she was 2 years old and escaped a refugee camp to come to the United States.

Ironically, a few of Trump’s favorite — and most right-wing — members of the House were also foreign-born. However, Dan Crenshaw and Mark Meadows had the fortune of being born in England and France, respectively, both “white” countries that Trump doesn’t seem to mind people immigrating from.
