NY Prosecutors Make Their Next Major Move Against Trump, Feverishly Looking Into Inaugural Documents

It's far from over.

President Donald Trump’s inauguration team has been under heavy scrutiny despite the fact that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has concluded. And despite the fact that Donald and his administration have attempted to obstruct in the investigations at every turn, it seems that it is still advancing as reports reveal that federal prosecutors are now inspecting tens of thousands of documents related to Trump’s inauguration.

The US attorney’s office with the Southern District of New York sent a wide-ranging subpoena to the President’s Inaugural Committee back in February that requested documents, records, and communications concerning the inaugural’s finances, vendors, and donors. The cache of documents slowly trickled in from the committee over the course of weeks, the last set having been produced and handed in within the last month, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The fact that all documents have been produced and turned in is a good indicator that the investigation is moving forward. Authorities with the US attorney’s office are investigating into how the record $107 million in donations for the inaugural was spent — whether it improperly benefitted any individual or came from foreign donors, which would be a direct violation of campaign finance laws that forbid the use of foreign money in American elections.

The investigation by the SDNY is one of many inquiries into Trump’s businesses or campaign-related activities, and what is discovered by prosecutors could shed more light on what was already discovered in Mueller’s report in regards to foreign influence.

This is far from the only investigation that Trump and his White House are currently under just in regards to the inauguration. State attorneys general from New Jersey and Washington, DC have issued subpoenas for these records and documents, as well. These entities are looking into the committee from its stance as a nonprofit organization to determine if any laws were violated as a non-profit in the way the funds were spent.

It seems that Trump has investigations hot on his tail no matter which way he turns. He’s to hoping he cracks soon.
