The often public disagreements between Kellyanne Conway and her husband George have long sparked speculation as to how the two could possibly share a roof with such disparate views of the Trump administration — his being clearly quite dim, and hers nearing a state of sycophancy, literally finding a way to claim every word that Donald Trump says means something entirely different than what it means.
But as it turns out, on the people surrounding Trump, Kellyanne and her Ivy League lawyer husband may not be as many leagues apart as it seems.
In his new insider’s account of his time in the Trump White House, former communications aide Cliff Sims recalls his observations of Trump’s senior adviser, and the behavior that he says made her formidable to her innumerable detractors and opponents. In one instance, Sims was performing maintenance on Kellyanne’s laptop when she suddenly began sending a barrage of text messages to reporters. At that point, Sims says, personal phones hadn’t yet been banned inside the West Wing, so the iPhone messaging service she was using was tied to both her personal phone and her personal laptop — what was in his hands. He could see every conversation.
Sims recalls that Conway was trashing other members of Trump’s inner circle directly to the media:
JourÂnalists from The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, Politico, and Bloomberg were all popping up on the screen. And these weren’t policy conversations or attempts to fend off attacks on the president. As I sat there trying to type, she bashed Jared Kushner, Reince Priebus, Steve Bannon, and Sean Spicer, all by name.”
In short, Sims just outed Kellyanne as the “leaker” that the White House was on a constant hunt for at the outset of the administration.
It’s not the first time that Kellyanne has faced such an allegation. In April of last year, Fox and Friends co-host Abby Huntsman confronted Conway directly about rumors that she was the “No. 1 leaker” that came out in a book published at that time. Conway used her skills at non-answers and said only,
Leakers get great press. And one day, Abby, I will have my say. So that will be very, very fascinating. I will have my say.”
It looks like she already has been.
