This is absolutely perfect.

The Republicans are simply beside themselves today as they come to terms with the future of their party and what may happen as the midterms come to fruition, and the word the best describes them is scared.

In fact, we’ve known they were scared since they started refusing to do town hall meetings with their constituents and refusing to debate their opponents.

House Speaker Paul Ryan himself is no stranger to America thinking he’s a coward, either. In fact, let’s revisit one of the best memories we have of Paul Ryan getting a massive wake-up call from citizens.

Why is it among the greatest? Because this ego check came from a big crowd of 8th-graders.

The students of South Orange Middle School in New Jersey were on a field trip in Washington, DC when their Capitol tour crossed paths with Rep. Ryan, and it seemed like a perfect opportunity for Ryan to connect with the kids and perhaps capture a photo-op that you just can’t buy. The problem?

Half the class refused to pose with him for the picture.

Wendy Weeks, one 8th-grader who elected not to participate, told the South Orange Village Green:

I think that taking the picture represents that you agree with the same political views and I don’t agree with his political views so I chose not to be in it.”

Wendy was definitely not alone in her political reasoning, proving that kids can be just as smart — and obviously smarter than voters in Wisconsin — as most adults. Classmate Matthew Malespina said, “I can’t take a picture with someone who supports a budget that would destroy public education and would leave 23 million people without healthcare.” And at least one girl connected Ryan back to the head of the GOP, Donald Trump. Louisa Maynard-Parisi told the Green:

I didn’t want to be in [the picture] because he believes in most of what Trump believes in.”

Same, Louisa. Same.
