World leaders from all around the globe have spent the last several days full of trepidation and dread in anticipation of spending a long weekend with Donald Trump. In fact, according to a report from the Washington Post, most world leaders that would soon be forced to spend 72 hours with America’s biggest embarrassment were approaching it with caution, to say the least. According to the report, they planned to just “get through” the Summit with Donald, hopefully “without any damage.”
It seems that many of Trump’s fellow world leaders were concerned about his habit of trying to police the way other countries handle their affairs, in an attempt to keep all of the spotlights on him, all while his own country is pretty much falling apart in front of not only his eyes but the entire world’s.
But evidently, one world leader, in particular, isn’t going to be taking any more of Donald’s nonsense over this long weekend that they’re all forced to spend with him — and he made sure to make it strikingly clear that he wanted absolutely nothing to do with Trump’s Russia obsession.
Now, Donald has (unsurprisingly) wanted Russia to rejoin the Summit ever since his inauguration — after the country was booted from the annual gathering for annexing the Crimean Penninsula — stating that the only reason Putin was kicked from the group was that he “outsmarted Obama and the EU.”
And the European council president had zero time for that.
“One year ago, in Canada, President Trump suggested reinviting Russia to G7, stating — opining — that Crimea’s annexation by Russia was partially justified. And that we should accept the fact. Under no condition can we agree with this logic,” Donald Tusk stated in his address at the Summit. “When it comes to the speculations around inviting Russia to the table, I would like to say this — First, the reasons why Russia was disinvited in 2014 are still valid. But what is more, there are new reasons, such as the Russian provocation on the Azov Sea. Second, when Russia was invited to G7 for the first time, it was believed that it would pursue the path of Liberal Democracy, rule of law, and human rights. Is there anyone among us who can say with full conviction, not out of business calculation, that Russia is on that path?”
“Today, I will try to convince my intellectuals that it would be better to invite Ukraine, as a guest of course, to the next G7 meeting to hear the opinion of their new president,” Tusk continued. “I talked to him about it two days ago and I know he would be very interested.”
Go ahead and take yourself several seats, Donald. Before they’re kicking your ass out next.
