Donald Trump’s team just cannot make him look good no matter what they do. Over Trump’s presidency, we’ve seen several of the president’s own administration members completely bomb and make the president look terrible on national television. One would think that oversensitive Trump would have drilled into their heads by now that they are never to expose his lies, but it seems even his top officials are still struggling.

Earlier this morning, Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney blew up the president’s lie that he could not release his tax returns due to an audit that was being done on them. Mulvaney flat out said that an audit does not stop a president or anyone from releasing that info.

In an interview on Fox News with Bill Hemmer, the host asked Mulvaney about the House Ways and Means Committee’s push to get the IRS to make Trump’s tax returns public. Mulvaney said that the committee knows “they are not going to get these taxes.” Hemmer said:

To be clear, you believe Democrats will never see the president’s tax returns.”

Mulvaney responded:

Never. Nor should they. Keep in mind, that was an issue that was already litigated during the election. Voters knew the president could have given his tax returns, they knew that he didn’t, and they elected him anyway, which is of course what drives the Democrats crazy.”

Hemmer pointed out the fact that Trump has said he was under audit for years and that he used it as an excuse to delay the release of the returns during his 2016 campaign. That’s where Mulvaney exposed him:

You could always allow people to see it. But that’s not what’s happening here. The Democrats are demanding the IRS turn over the documents, and that is not going to happen, and they know it.”

Trump must be throwing a fit right now. You can watch the interview below:
