If any of Donald Trump’s former aides thought that the president would protect them like they protected him throughout the years, the struggles they are currently having in their legal battles has shown them just how wrong they were.
Things have actually gotten to such dire circumstances that members of Trump’s now-defunct inner circle are resorting to crowdfunding to take care of all the mounting legal expenses they’ve incurred thanks to their association with Trump.
Axios reported that due to the investigations by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen and former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn have both started crowdsourcing campaigns so they can whine about their struggles and beg America for help.
This must be quite humiliating for Trump’s former right-hand men, and they couldn’t sound more pathetic as they make their cases on crowdfunding websites. On Cohen’s GoFundMe, he begs America to donate to what he calls the “Michael Cohen Truth Fund”:
On July 2, 2018, Michael Cohen declared his independence from Donald Trump and his commitment to tell the truth. On August 21, Michael Cohen made the decision to take legal responsibility and to continue his commitment to tell the truth. Michael decided to put his family and his country first. Now Michael needs your financial help — to pay his legal fees.”
So far, Cohen has gotten almost $170,000. Flynn has done something similar in having his family create a defense fund website, which says:
The costs of legal representation associated with responding to the multiple investigations that have arisen in the wake of the 2016 election place a great burden on Mike and his family. They are deeply grateful for considering a donation to help pay expenses relating to his legal representation.”
We can’t think of a more embarrassing way for these men to be ending their careers. As Mueller brings more of Trump’s associates down, be prepared to read more sob stories from privileged white men.
