Donald Trump has done tons of damage to the Republican party over the last few years, beginning with his 2016 presidential campaign. But last night, he actually bragged about his ability to destroy the careers of GOPers, proving that he’s Team Trump over any loyalty to the Republican Party.
At a rally in Ohio, Trump boasted to his audience about how he defeats Republicans who dare to go against him, stating that he “destroys” their careers when they try to stand up to him. Trump said:
How do you get 100 percent of anything? We always have somebody who says ‘I don’t like Trump, I don’t like our president, he destroyed my career.'”
Trump also said that the reason he destroys GOP politicians’ careers is because they “said bad things about me.” Yes, this is coming from a 70-something year old man:
I only destroy their career because they said bad things about me and you fight back and they go down the tubes and that’s OK.”
Republicans should be terrified, because while Trump said that he would work hard to help conservatives win the midterms, it’s clear that he cares more about saving himself and protecting his ego than he cares about helping the party out. You can watch this moment below:
Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan must be having a panic attack. Trump was bragging because every candidate he’s endorsed so far has won in the GOP primaries — making it even more clear that what was once the GOP is now Trump’s party. Trump is turning the Republican Party into his own brand and bringing more of the wrong people into his swamp.
While the midterms are looking positive for Democrats, it would be devastating to see Trump’s people win so we cannot be complacent. Trump is making sure that only those who support his corrupt, disgusting agenda are going to represent the GOP — making us lose all hope that one day a more reasonable, sane Republican Party might be possible.
