As most of us are now heart-breakingly aware, Donald Trump has been accused of yet another act of sexual assault. This time, by longtime advice columnist E. Jean Carroll. In an interview with New York Magazine, Carroll alleged that Donald Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the late 90s.

Carroll appeared on the cover of the magazine, donning the same outfit she was wearing during her assault, and inside the pages detailed the harrowing act of violence she suffered at the hands of the now-president.

The writer explained to New York Magazine that she was on her way out of the department store when Donald, then a real estate tycoon, stopped her and asked for her assistance with picking out lingerie. Donald proceeded to badger Carroll into trying on a garment, in a dressing room — where he pinned her to the wall, pulled down her clothing, and raped her.

The White House immediately released a statement berating Carroll and claiming that her story is all lies in an attempt to influence the narrative around the revelation as quickly as possible.

Now, Donald Trump himself has responded to these allegations, and it is just as bad as you expected.

“False accusations diminish the severity of real assault. All should condemn false accusations and any actual assault in the strongest possible terms,” Trump stated. “If anyone has information that the Democratic Party is working with Ms. Carroll or New York Magazine, please notify us as soon as possible,” he continued in an attempt to discredit his victim. “The world should know what’s really going on. It is a disgrace and people should pay dearly for such false accusations.”

Our nation is in a shattered state if we will honestly allow a person, especially the president, to get away not only with a brutal rape but with blaming and threatening their victim when they speak out. This is the sort of thing that horror movies are made out of. Something has to be done.
