Donald Trump talked a big game about how he was going to “drain the swamp” but it seems like all he’s doing is filling it up with more of his gross friends, who are far more corrupt and incompetent than most of the people we’ve had serving our country.
Palm Beach Daily has recently broken the news that Trump is trying to get yet another one of his golf buddies into his administration, and the president is “ready to nominate couture handbag designer and Palm Beach resident Lana Marks to become ambassador to South Africa.” This is just gross.
If Marks is nominated and accepts the position, this makes her the fourth member of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago golf club to be offered a diplomatic position in his White House. For example, Robin Bernstein, who is now the ambassador to the Dominican Republic, was a founding member of Mar-a-Lago. Trump chose Patrick Park, who hold fundraisers at the golf club, to be ambassador to Austria but he turned it down. Trump also offered megadonor Brian Burns ambassadorship to Ireland, but he turned it down as well. Looks like this is just going to continue being a trend.
While Marks was born in South Africa, she has no diplomatic experience. And just like Trump, she has a ton of lawsuits attached to her. The Palm Beach Daily reported:
She is best known for her six-figure handbags, clutched by red-carpet celebrities like Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie and Kate Winslett. But she also has a trail of business lawsuits in addition to no diplomatic experience. And in an unusual twist, she is expected to represent the United States before the government of the country in which she was born.”
The White House has yet to issue a response about Mark’s potential ambassadorship, but this will definitely raise eyebrows and confirm suspicions that Trump is once again using his presidency for his own personal business gain.
