Despite the fact that the Republican Party just got crushed in the midterm elections, Donald Trump hasn’t learned to treat the press with respect yet. Recently, the president was lashing out at reporters during a press spray in the Oval Office.
It’s insane that Trump hasn’t figured out that his presidency would be going far better if he would just stop acting like an assh*le. Some of his most embarrassing presidential moments have been due to his mistreatment of the press. Just one example of this is what happened to Trump during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where the press checked him in real time.
At this major event, Trump endured a round of Q&A after making a speech, and decided to take jabs at the press — except this audience wasn’t having it. Trump was asked what experiences he’d had in the past that had prepared him to be POTUS, and Trump spoke about his history in business before turning on the media. Trump said:
I’ve always seem to get, for whatever reason, a disproportionate amount of press or media. Throughout my whole life, somebody will explain someday why. As a businessman I was always treated really well by the press.”
Then, he said this:
And it wasn’t until I became a politician that I realized how nasty, how mean, how vicious and how fake the press can be.”
What Trump didn’t see coming was the fact that foreign journalists were not going to stand for this nonsense. As soon as Trump said this, a loud commotion of boos came from the audience.
The Washington Post’s Ishaan Tharoor confirmed that it was foreign journalists who had opposed the president this time:
In reaction, Trump did a double take, scaled back his statement and said:
Overall, the bottom line, somebody said they couldn’t be that bad because here we are, we’re president.”
