Allergic to anything that resembles work, Donald Trump has resorted to giving his guests tours of the most private areas of the White House so he can go off on unhinged rants and trash all the presidents who came before him.
According to the Washington Post, Trump has invited “hundreds, if not thousands” of guests to view the White House, often allowing lawmakers, journalist, and others to see places such as where Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky began their affair. And while doing this, Trump humiliates Clinton by making inappropriate jokes and facial expressions.
All of this comes from “Team of Vipers,” a new book by White House aide Cliff Sims. Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley said:
Most people want to keep parts of the White House private for their families and themselves. He’s very restless and doesn’t like desk work. He’d rather roam around and B.S. with people than hunker down.”
Sims also wrote that Trump regularly tells people his private dining room was in “rough shape” when he first came in. According to White House officials, Trump tells people that his predecessor former President Barack Obama spent all his time there, watching TV. Trump would say, “He just sat in here and watched basketball all day.” Trump would also brag about how his television was bigger than Obama’s.
A former Obama White House official has disputed Trump’s claims, stating Obama rarely worked in the dining room or watched basketball there. Trump also said “no one had ever seen the Oval Office” during Obama’s presidency, which the former Obama aide also stated was total nonsense.
Trump’s White House tours are clearly an avoidance technique where he can escape from work and go off on his rants. Aides stated that Trump is in a much better mood on his tours than when he is in White House meetings. However, he still brings politics into his tours. Recently, a guest taking a tour recalled Trump saying:
There was no collusion. It’s completely insane!”
The White House may never recover from the damage Trump has done to its reputation.
