If there’s any award that Donald Trump does NOT deserve to get by any measure, it’s definitely the Nobel Peace Prize – and yet the president continues to insist and boast about how he’s been repeatedly nominated for the honor.
Yesterday, Trump stated that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe nominated him for a Nobel Peace Prize because his negotiations with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made Japan feel “safe.” Does that even sound plausible?! Trump stated this during his announcement about his national emergency, saying that Abe “gave me the most beautiful copy of a letter that he sent to the people who give out a thing called the Nobel Prize. I have nominated you, respectfully, on behalf of Japan, I am asking them to give you the Nobel Peace Prize.”
And to make this even more infuriating, Trump tried to argue that he should probably get the honor because his predecessor Barack Obama had gotten one in 2009. Trump whined:
They gave it to Obama. He didn’t even know what he got it for. He was there for about 15 seconds and he got the Nobel Prize. He said, ‘Oh, what did I get it for?’ With me, I probably will never get it.”
And this gets even more insane. Trump bragged about how he was apparently “nominated” for this prize in 2017 and 2018, but the Nobel Committee later reported that those nominations were “FORGED!” Olav Njolstad, secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, stated that they believed it was the same nominator for both years who was behind the bogus nominations.
It’s not yet known if Trump’s comment about Abe nominating him is legit, but there’s no real reason to believe it is considering that Trump is a pathological liar. As of right now, a Japanese nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize has not been announced.
