Donald Trump’s emotional attachment to Fox News host Sean Hannity has been widely documented — it’s even been reported that Trump speaks to Hannity more than his own advisers, and regularly phones his favorite Fox personality every night before he goes to bed! But if you watched Hannity’s show last night (hopefully you didn’t waste your time), you know he made a giant mistake which could ruin the bromance between him and the president.

On Friday night, Hannity made the mistake of suggesting that Trump should be more like the man he is most jealous of: Former president Barack Obama. It’s a surprising statement from a host on Fox News, and even more dangerous considering how unhinged Trump becomes every time Obama’s name is even mentioned.

Hannity had been speaking about the controversial New York Times op-ed, which has been driving Trump insane while he tries to find which one of his senior officials is responsible for it. Hannity started off predictably enough, calling the author of the op-ed a “cowardly bureaucrat” who is a part of the “so-called Resistance.” Hannity said:

Wow, we have sleeper cells within our government? This is a clear and present danger in our country.”

After playing a clip of the president bashing the NYT for “treason,” Hannity said:

That is beyond unacceptable. It’s like a soft coup aided and abetted by the corrupt media in this country.”

Hannity then pulled an excerpt from the op-ed, which said:

We will do what we can to steer the administration in the right direction – one way or another – it’s over.”

Hannity probably made Trump happy as he freaked out:

‘One way or another?’ What is ‘one way or another?’ Voted out? Impeached? Die in office? Is that a veiled threat? Where’s the Secret Service?”

But then he made this fatal mistake, suggesting that Obama had a better way to deal with leaks and had set a precedent:

Either way, given this person, alleged proximity to the president, it should be investigated and treated as matter of national security. Now, perhaps the president should use the Obama model and track down the anonymous saboteur.”

Big mistake, buddy. Once Trump sees this segment (if he hasn’t already), he’s going to lose it.
