The opposition to Donald Trump’s racist border wall is growing and there are more people from the Republican Party calling him out now, which will be devastating to his already declining fanbase.

Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) is just the latest GOPer to lash out at Trump for creating this border “crisis,” which Hurd is calling a “myth.” Hurd is also calling Trump’s solution for a wall to keep immigrants out of America an “ancient” idea, and this will be devastating to the president considering how much experience Hurd has with the U.S.-Mexico border. After all, Hurd’s district covers 620 miles of the border.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Hurd smacked Trump’s wall idea down, calling it a “third-century solution to a 21st-century problem.” He said:

What I always say is building a wall from sea to shining sea is the most expensive and least effective way to do border security.”

Hurd pointed out that while a barrier may work in an urban area, remote areas require a different solution. He explained that border patrol agents may not be able to respond to a breach for hours or days at a time, making the wall completely ineffective.

Hurd also stated that Trump’s “crisis” isn’t a crisis at all — or else Trump wouldn’t have been able to shut down the government and restrict pay for border patrol agents. He also said border towns in Texas are extremely safe and suggested that border surveillance such as radar and cameras would be far more affordable and rational. He said:

This is not rocket science. We can solve this problem. We need to be looking at the right metrics. The metric is: Are we seeing a decrease in drugs and illegal immigration coming into this country? That’s what we should be focused on, instead of how many miles of wall.”

As if this wasn’t bad enough, Hurd now has a new role on the House Appropriations Committee, which will undoubtedly give his voice more power on this matter. Currently, he is the only Republican representative of border areas in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California to oppose the wall.
