Rachel Maddow Just Exposed The Republicans’ Plot To Impeach Rosenstein, And It Happens After Midterms

This is convoluted and crazy and absolutely in character for the underhanded GOP.

Last night we brought you coverage of the Rachel Maddow exclusive that revealed the secret recordings of Reps Devin Nunes and Cathy McMorris-Rodgers — telling a supporter at a fundraiser dinner that they wanted to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, but the political calculus was that they might risk not getting Trump’s Supreme Court nominee confirmed if they “tied up” the Senate with an impeachment.

But as Rachel explained on her show tonight, Republicans certainly haven’t given up on the effort to get rid of Rosenstein. In fact, the plan may be even more nefarious at this point.

They may not even be pushing for it before the midterm — and they may actually already know they’re going to lose the House in the November election. So, as Rachel explains, House Republicans look like they’re setting up to attempt the impeachment during the “lame duck” session of Congress — the period between the election and the day the new Congress is actually seated.

And if they succeed on hiding their intentions through that point, and thereby don’t “tie up” the Senate with impeachment proceedings, they hope to get nominee Brett Kavanaugh confirmed to the Supreme Court. And if, as is widely expected, an attempted impeachment of the Deputy AG leads to a constitutional crisis, well… guess who’s on the Supreme Court to help field a decision on how it’s resolved.

But we’re just relaying information from the master herself at this point. Watch and listen to Rachel’s explanation of the possible sequence of events here:
