Getting under the skin of Donald J. Trump is far too easy and way too much fun. That’s why throngs of Americans are calling on New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio — who presides over such a large number of people that it’s like governing Arkansas, Mississippi, and West Virginia combined — to report on and ultimately back a recent petition.
A petition was created by a woman named Elizabeth Rowin, in hopes that the appeal would eventually reach it’s intended audience of the NYC mayor and his supporting city council. In the petition, she cited the recent move by the city of Los Angeles to rename a stretch of highway after former POTUS Barack Obama. She used this renaming as precedent to challenge the city of New York to make a similar change.
Her request in the petition is short, sweet, and searing:
The City of Los Angeles recently honored former President Barack Obama by renaming a stretch of the 134 Freeway near Downtown LA in his honor.
We request the New York City Mayor and City Council do the same by renaming a block of Fifth Avenue after the former president who saved our nation from the Great Recession, achieved too many other accomplishments to list, and whose two terms in office were completely scandal free.”
Now you may be asking yourself, “Why on Earth just a block?” That just sounds like a super colossal pain in the ass and a good way for mail to get lost, right? But this isn’t just any old block of Fifth Avenue.
We request the stretch of Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets be renamed ‘President Barack H. Obama Avenue.’ Any addresses on that stretch of Fifth Avenue should be changed accordingly.”
Now things are getting interesting, folks. That particular block just happens to be exactly where Trump Tower is located. Meaning that every last penny donated to Trump’s reelection campaign would have to be addressed to:
“Donald Trump 2020
Trump Tower, 15th Floor
721 Barack H. Obama Ave.
New York, NY 10022″
We think it’s worth the street sign issue, guys. And we’re willing to bet that gaggles of New Yorkers would agree.
