Vice President Mike Pence may hide quietly behind the scenes, but no one should forget that he is every bit as dangerous as Donald Trump. It’s not hard for Pence to fall back into the shadows, because every day his boss creates enough chaos and danger to keep the country distracted and exhausted. Meanwhile, Trump’s VP is very busy forcing a terrifying far-right conservative agenda.
Axios has just reported that Pence is working overtime and yielding way more power than any of us would be comfortable with. Reporter Jonathan Swan stated that the Vice President has striking influence in Venezuela, having already traveled for Trump in 2017 — and was responsible for Trump attacking the country. It was also Pence who brought the wife of a Venezuelan political prisoner to Trump’s office, and told Juan Guaidó to declare himself Venezuela’s interim president, promising that Trump would back him.
Pence has also busied himself with creating tension with European allies — and it’s working. Assisting Trump in getting other countries to hate us, Pence received ZERO applause during his Warsaw speech. Swan wrote:
He infuriated Turkish officials while working with Trump to secure the release of Pastor Andrew Brunson from a Turkish prison.”
While Trump is dangerous due to his idiocy and mental instability, Mike Pence is scary for completely different reasons. Far more measured and methodical in his strategy, Pence could actually get some of his ideas through where Trump’s incompetence and complete lack of knowledge always cause him to fail. Pence’s far-right agenda is terrifying, especially when you look at the way he views women’s health and LGBT rights. With Pence standing in for Trump on so many fronts, America should be very wary of what the Vice President may be trying to do, even if Trump’s circus acts continue to distract us from what’s going on behind the scenes.
