Donald Trump has been screaming “NO COLLUSION! NO OBSTRUCTION!” from the rooftops since the very moment former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report dropped — despite the fact that said report did absolutely nothing to exonerate him. In fact, Mueller actually stated matter of factly that he could not exonerate the president. But, of course, that meant nothing to Donald. As long as they weren’t packing him off in handcuffs, he felt like it was a win.
But regardless of Trump’s (and the rest of his cronies’) rhetoric in the wake of Mueller’s report, Donald is far from out of the woods yet.
The House Judiciary Committee has been playing the long game with Trump and his administration for quite some time now, building their case against them piece by piece. And it seems they’ve got the next piece to their puzzle right in their crosshairs now.
As of today, yet another subpoena has been issued by the House Committee, this one to former top Trump aide, Rob Porter.
Porter served as White House staff secretary for a little over a year and the Committee feels that he’s a pretty crucial asset to ultimately bringing Trump down as he was one of the most cited administration officials in Special Counsel Mueller’s report after he admitted in testimony that Trump ordered him to order former White House counsel Don McGahn to pen a letter in which he disputed a New York Times story claiming that Trump has demanded the firing of Special Counsel Mueller.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler announced the move in a statement, saying, “As I’ve said before, any other American would have been prosecuted based on the evidence Special Counsel Mueller uncovered in his report. Rob Porter was prominently featured in the Special Counsel’s description of President Trump’s efforts to obstruct justice by directing then-White House Counsel Don McGahn to fire the Special Counsel, and then ordering him to lie about it.”
So far this is the eighth subpoena to be issued by the House Committee in reference to obstruction committed by the president. And they show no signs of slowing down any time soon.
