The developing investigation and controversy around Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, continues to blow up in the GOP’s face. Not only does this make the Republican Party look terrible to begin with, but they’re looking more dysfunctional than ever as some prominent conservatives find their backbone and decide that they will not continue to support Kavanaugh if the FBI finds incriminating information related to the sexual assault allegations or the lies he may have told during the hearing.
Last night, several bombshell interviews with Republicans aired on 60 Minutes. There were some moments that left Americans disgusted, such as when Senator Lindsey Graham stated that his mind was already made up on confirming Kavanaugh and that he wouldn’t be changing it regardless of what the FBI found. But a glimmer of hope appeared when Republican Senators Chris Coons and Jeff Flake stated that all bets were off Kavanaugh if he was found out to have lied.
Host Scott Pelley asked the two Senators, “If Judge Kavanaugh is shown to have lied to the committee, nomination’s over?”
Flake, who was the one Republican who had the courage to call for a delay in Kavanaugh’s vote to open an FBI investigation, said “Oh, yes.” Coons agreed and said, “I would think so.”
Because it doesn’t happen very often, it’s certainly refreshing to see some Republicans standing up for what’s right and calling for justice, rather than being blindly loyal to the party even in light of such serious allegations. You can watch Flake and Coons send their GOP colleagues the shock of their lives below:
With midterms around the corner, the Kavanaugh scandal is the last thing the GOP needed, and the fact that they are now dividing over it is making the Democratic Party look really good for November. The GOP only has themselves and their unhinged president to thank.
