Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, just did an explosive interview with CNN’s Alisyn Camerota this morning and it’s going viral because it’s pretty much a tutorial in what NOT to do when you’re representing a client on national television.

In all fairness, Trump should expect this from Giuliani by now because the former NYC mayor has been screwing up Trump’s case for innocence since he joined Trump’s legal team — but what he did today was probably one of his worst performances. Not only did Giuliani state that he didn’t know if the president was telling the truth or not, but he actually tried to flee the interview after realizing he’d botched it.

The footage of Giuliani trying to shut down his own interview will haunt him for the rest of his career. This brilliant moment came after Camerota has been grilling him about Trump’s attacks and attempts to discredit the Russian investigation. After Giuliani tried to claim that Michael Cohen doctored the tape of his secret conversation with Trump, Giuliani stopped and said the interview was “silly” and “petty.”

Camerota was not deterred by Giuliani’s dismissal and continued to press the lawyer. She asked him if the president’s recent tweets meant he “was getting a little bit nervous about the investigation.”

Giuliani stated that the Russia investigation was “interfering with his ability to govern” — which is hilarious because we all know Trump isn’t doing any work. Giuliani said:

It’s a horrible thing that Mueller is doing.”

Camerota then told Giuliani to “hold that thought” so she could go to a commercial break, but Giuliani actually tried to end the interview on the spot, as cameras rolled. He said:

No, no, I’m going to leave after this one.”

When Camerota asked Giuliani if she’d scared him away, his response was super defensive:

Oh yeah, you’ve scared me away, I look really scared. No, it’s starting to get useless. This conversation is getting really, really petty and silly.”

Camerota reminded him that earlier in the interview, he said he would stay on “all day,” which put him on the spot and convinced him to stay put. But for a few seconds, it was clear that Giuliani knew he was screwing up and wanted to make an escape before he made things worse. You can watch the segment below:
