Now that Trump’s long government shutdown has taken its initial toll, people are starting to worry about just what the long term effects of having an unstable resident might be — and the fact that an extremely concerning 2014 video of Trump has resurfaced doesn’t help at all.
The old video was brought up by authoritarianism expert Sarah Kendzior. In the video, Trump spoke to Fox News about his opposition to ObamaCare — and in doing so, he spoke VERY highly of crashing the economy in order to get what he wanted. While he spoke to his beloved Fox hosts, Trump told them why he felt economic collapse would force people to see things his way. Trump said:
You know what solves it? When the economy crashes, when the country goes to total hell and everything is a disaster, then you’ll have a, you know, you’ll have riots to go back to where we used to be when we were great.”
Absolutely terrified. Kendzior, who had previously analyzed the video, said:
This is what ‘Make America Great Again’ means to Donald Trump. It is how he has operated his businesses, taking advantage of economic disasters like the housing market crash for personal gain. It is why, during a long and painful recession, he made ‘You’re fired’ a national catchphrase, because he understands that sometimes it feels good to know that the person getting fired, for once, is not you.”
Kendzior also stated that Trump was basically a sociopath who doesn’t care about how much his decisions hurt others:
No one holds Trump accountable, because he is exactly what he claimed to be railing against: an elite billionaire with no concern for the average person, a kleptocrat who enjoys taunting people less powerful than him with threats. When you have that kind of money, which Trump was given in birth and further gained through fraud, there are few limitations to the ways you can hurt people.”
