CNN has just released its first poll for the 2020 election season this morning, and the results are going to stun the Republican Party and America in general.
There was one interesting surprise in this poll — despite being extremely undecided about whether or not he is running for president in 2020, Democrat and former Vice President Joe Biden appears at the top of the list with 33 percent, clearly dominating the list of Democratic contenders. Senator and 2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders came in second place, with 13 percent.
Many of us would be enthused to see Biden run again and truly believe that he would give Trump hell, but it seems as though he still needs some convincing and perhaps this new poll will help. Here’s the list of Democratic contenders:
The first @CNN numbers for 2020 Democratic presidential nomination just released this morning:
Biden 33%
Sanders 13%
Harris 9%
Warren 8%
Booker 5%
Kerry 5%
Bloomberg 4%
O’Rourke 4%
Holder 3%
Garcetti 2%
Avenatti 1%
Gillibrand 1%
Klobuchar 1%
Patrick 1%
Bullock <1%
Delaney <1%— Ryan Struyk (@ryanstruyk) October 14, 2018
Unfortunately, the poll also shows that an overwhelmingly disturbing percent of Americans (46 percent) believe that Trump could win another term, which is absolutely horrifying and should have Democrats running to the voting booths in the midterm elections to stop this from happening. The poll stated that Americans were “more likely” to think Trump would win a second term, and that was up ten points since the poll was taken in May.
The Republicans also seem to be taking Trump’s side on this — only 20 percent of GOPers are stating that they want another candidate to run for the Republican Party in 2020. If this isn’t a sure sign that the Democrats need to get their act together, I don’t know what is. While Trump’s presidency is a hot mess, we cannot get comfortable or confident right now, when so much is at stake.
