Considering how hard President Donald Trump has tried to keep details of his own past hidden from America, no one would be surprised if he pulled out all the stops to make sure that the FBI couldn’t get their hands on incriminating information about his Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. Already, there have been highly conflicting and confusing reports about how the president may be limiting the FBI in Kavanaugh’s sexual assault investigation.
Last night, just a few hours after a White House official claimed that the FBI would only be permitted to speak to certain witnesses and would not be allowed to investigate the claims of at least one of the accusers, Trump went on Twitter to discredit the report and claim the FBI had free reign:
NBC News incorrectly reported (as usual) that I was limiting the FBI investigation of Judge Kavanaugh, and witnesses, only to certain people. Actually, I want them to interview whoever they deem appropriate, at their discretion. Please correct your reporting!”

Let’s just say that Trump’s team should really be checking the president’s Twitter feed more often, because earlier today White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders went on Fox News and pretty much communicated the complete opposite.
In an interview with host Chris Wallace, Sanders was asked if the White House was limiting the FBI on who the agency could and could not interview — and Sanders made no attempt to deny that or make Trump’s claims credible. In fact, just the opposite happened. Sanders repeatedly danced around the question and continued to say that it was in the hands of the Senate — even though Wallace pointed out several times that the White House was in control! Then, of course, Sanders changed the subject and started bashing the Democrats.
This does not add up to what Trump is saying, and we think Sanders may have just accidentally exposed him by not flat out denying that the president was not getting involved. You can watch Sanders crash and burn below:
