In the ongoing saga of Donald Trump, dodger of military service due to bone spurs, and John McCain, a certified war hero who has been serving the country since he graduated from military academy sixty years ago, it’s really not hard to pick a favorite.

That’s probably why Trump hates McCain so much. Donald Trump is a very proud man, and any comparisons to other people make him exceedingly uncomfortable. He especially hates being compared to anyone else in a position of authority. If it’s questioning whether or not McCain is a war hero since he got captured, or mocking him for his failed presidential runs, failing to respect McCain’s illness, or straight up calling the Arizona Senator names when McCain displayed more power and integrity in a single health care vote than Trump will ever show in his life, the President truly despises John McCain simply because he is respected and Donald himself is not.

We can’t help but believe that the United States Congress chose to give this year’s National Defense Authorization Act the honorific of being named for McCain in part to troll Donald Trump — the animus between the two men has been no secret, and everyone knew that Trump would be forced to sign something named after a man he hates.

So when Trump delivered a speech today at Fort Drum in New York after signing the bill, it went unnoticed by exactly no one that he refused to speak the name of the man the bill was named after. That’s the kind of snub only a man like Donald Trump would deliver. And after watching the speech, John’s wife Cindy was absolutely graceful about the entire affair:

But like I said — the snub did not go unnoticed. And when CNN host Jake Tapper took it upon himself to thank McCain for his service to the country since Trump refused to, Cindy noticed that as well, retweeting the venerated host:

At least some people have enough class to pay respect properly. Watch Jake Tapper’s segment on the signing here:
