Wednesday morning, Donald Trump found the ladder to the high dive at the social media city pool, climbed up, and dove off.
At this point, it’s almost old hat that Trump does his craziest tweeting — or retweets the craziest stuff — early in the morning. Most reckon he does it from the toilet, which I will admit would give it some backstory that makes it even creepier when he fires off some anti-Muslim trope from, say, white nationalist Katie Hopkins.
But Wednesday, it wasn’t quite a “retweet” in that he actually had to transcribe what someone said into his own tweet, since they didn’t say it on Twitter.
Conservative former radio host Wayne Allyn Root had responded to the controversy over Trump’s claim on Tuesday that Jews who vote for Democrats are “disloyal,” and what he said certainly did nothing to quell how supremely awful a thing that was. In Trump’s quest to paint “The Squad” as anti-Semitic, he took it just a little too far even for some Republicans and said from the Oval Office,
I think any Jewish people that vote for a Democrat, I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge or a great disloyalty.”
Which is horrible, right? I think we can all agree that’s horrible.
Well, Root and Trump took it further on Wednesday.
Root, who actually made his name by being wrong about literally everything in the universe — he’s the one who basically started some of the larger aspects of the “birther” theory about Obama, he said that Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Hillary Clinton killed Seth Rich, he said that James Alex Fields, the guy who murdered Heather Heyer at the Unite The Right rally in 2017 was a paid actor — came out and gave Trump the quote to end all quotes, which Trump promptly tweeted out along with his thanks for Root’s “very nice words”:
“Thank you to Wayne Allyn Root for the very nice words. “President Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world, not just America, he is the best President for Israel in the history of the world…and the Jewish people in Israel love him….

….like he’s the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God…But American Jews don’t know him or like him. They don’t even know what they’re doing or saying anymore. It makes no sense! But that’s OK, if he keeps doing what he’s doing, he’s good for…..

…..all Jews, Blacks, Gays, everyone. And importantly, he’s good for everyone in America who wants a job.” Wow! @newsmax @foxandfriends @OANN

Like he’s the King of Israel. Somehow I don’t think this is going to quiet the controversy any.
