Trump Addresses Philadelphia Shooting On Twitter, Complains About “Street Crime,” Never Mentions Guns

Oh look, another load of bullsh*t from the president in the wake of a shooting.

Yet another shooting took place in our country yesterday evening when police officers in Philadelphia attempted to serve a narcotics warrant on an individual in his home and the suspect opened fire — resulting in an eight-hour standoff between the individual and Philadelphia’s police force, with six officers ultimately suffering non-life threatening injuries.

As sickening as it is, we all know that in the end it will be quickly chalked up as yet another act of brazen gun violence in the United States, blamed on some arbitrary reason that has nothing to do with the actual guns, and once again we will be left with absolutely no action or legislation to prevent the next shooting.

And Donald Trump proved that himself this morning when he finally responded to the shooting, the next day no less, and gave us all the bullshit excuse that we’ve been dreading yet expecting.

“The Philadelphia shooter should never have been allowed to be on the streets. He had a long and very dangerous criminal record. Looked like he was having a good time after his capture, and after wounding so many police. Long sentence – must get much tougher on street crime!” Trump’s tweet read.

Of course, every last ounce of the blame fell on “street crime” and a “criminal record.” Lo and behold, not a mere mention of gun violence, legislation, or the epidemic that is mass shootings in this country. Because if he so much as hints at the guns as even a part of the issue, he’ll be forced to do something about it — and there goes one of his biggest campaign donors.

Believe it or not, this response is actually a slight bit better than the one he had to the shooter that recently killed 22 people and wounded dozens more in El Paso. But of course, that shooter virtually quoted Donald’s behavior and rhetoric as his reasoning for shooting up a WalMart in Texas. Also, that guy was white. There just isn’t quite the dog whistle for Trump’s white nationalist supporters if you talk “criminal record” and “street crime” when you’re talking about white people.

Frankly, we’re surprised not to have seen the word “thug.” The day’s not over, though.
