Donald Trump may be shifting his opinion in the case of Christine Blasey Ford’s accusation against his Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. This is according to a source close to the President, who began watching this morning’s hearing while aboard Air Force One, as reported by his Press Secretary.

Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman tweeted:

If anyone knows what television optics can do for public opinion, it’s Donald Trump. He has managed his entire presidency as a public relations campaign, carefully releasing information at strategic moments and staging campaign rallies every time he needs a boost among his base.

By any and every measure, the hearing thus far has been an absolute disaster for Republicans. Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley has unleashed near-screaming tirades when he has felt that GOP Senators were being portrayed unfairly and the woman prosecutor that Republicans hired to do their questioning for them, Rachel Mitchell, has unwound a series of questions that look desperate and at times cruel.

During Trump’s press conference on Wednesday, he indicated at one point that his opinion could be changed if Dr. Ford’s testimony seemed credible to him, and it appears that may be the case.

It remains to be seen whether he cares enough about Dr. Ford’s assault to rescind his nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court.
