San Juan Mayor Responds To Trump’s Attacks As Storm Approaches: “Get Out Of The Way”

The Mayor of San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico, is done with Donald Trump’s nonsense. The last time a major hurricane hit her tiny island, the power struggle that Trump undertook with her did nothing but distract from the real job of saving lives and rebuilding the storm-torn cities. Now that Hurricane Dorian is threatening Puerto Rico again, Carmen Yulin Cruz has no time for Trump’s games.

In fact, it seems she was remembering exactly how Trump handled Hurricane Maria when she went on CNN on Tuesday night to explain how Puerto Rico and San Juan are preparing for the storm. Not only did she give the lowdown on the hurricane prep, but gave a few words for the President as well, who has already been out ahead of this storm insulting Puerto Rico in advance and seeming to blame the US territory for the storms that keep hitting it.

Cruz told CNN,

It seems like some people have learned the lessons of the past or are willing to say that they didn’t do right by us the first time and they’re trying to do their best. That is not the case with the president of the United States. We are not going to be concerned by, frankly, his behavior, his lack of understanding, and it is ludicrous. So get out of the way, President Trump, and let people who can do the job get the job done.”

They were strong words on the heels of a tweet Cruz sent out calling out Trump for a false figure he keeps repeating about the level of aid given to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria:

I actually think that would be too much to ask, Mayor Cruz.
