President Donald Trump is in Japan as we speak for this years G20 Summit and has since met with Russian President Vladimir Putin face-to-face for the very first time since Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s nearly two-year long investigation into alleged Russian hacking into our country’s election concluded — the very same investigation in which the special counsel did discover that Russia did, in fact, make several attempts at swaying America’s election in the direction of then-hopeful Donald Trump, yet thanks to his and his administration’s repeated obstruction through the investigation, Mueller was not able to prove that Donald actually colluded with Russia.
Of course, with the Summit marking the first in-person meeting with the two world leaders, the question of how Donald would be handling his time spent with Putin was certainly on everyone’s mind. Over the last several days, Trump has been asked about his plans to handle the Russian president and whether or not he would confront him about election meddling during the Summit and all of Donald’s answers have been lack-luster at best — giving one reporter a wishy-washy “I may” and actually screaming at another on the White House lawn just as he prepared to depart for Japan, saying “I’ll have a very good conversation with him. What I say to him is none of your business.”
So, to say the least, we honestly haven’t been holding our breaths for a big, presidential display condemning Russia for the very same activity that got him elected. However, we didn’t necessarily think the man would actually have the gall to essentially sit in front of the entire world and joke about it.
Donald sat down to meet with Putin and was questioned by a reporter whether or not he would be telling the Russian leader not to meddle in U.S. Democracy again — to which Trump replied, “of course I will” with a shit-eating grin, then turned and pointed at Putin saying ” don’t meddle in the election.” And both of the men shared a hardy, comical moment that the expense of our country.
If we weren’t just a complete embarrassment before, we’re certainly a laughing stock now.
