We all know that Donald Trump isn’t capable of having any sort of adult-like discussion, but sometimes his immature, childish behavior can be extremely surprising even at this point in his failed presidency. His behavior after his last meeting has just been revealed, and it’ll only further convince you that this man cannot be president.
Yesterday, Trump had an Oval Office meeting with House Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The conversation was a heated one, as expected, but Trump tried to play it off like everything was fine despite the fact that he’d threatened to shut down the government and was visibly tense in the footage. At one point, Trump said:
I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don’t want criminals, and people that have lots of problems, and drugs pouring into our country.
So I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it — the last time you shut it down, it didn’t work. I will take the mantle of shutting it down. And I’m going to shut it down for border security.”
And even though Trump publicly said that the discussion was done in a “friendly manner,” that’s not what the attending Democrats said — and now, there’s an report from a White House official that seconds that account. A White House official told the Los Angeles Times that after the meeting, Trump had been so furious that he flicked a folder so that papers were flung all over the place.
Pelosi apparently felt this childishness coming on, even when she was in the meeting with the president. Later that day, Pelosi told fellow Democratic colleagues that she had been “trying to be a mom” during the discussion, as Trump clearly needed his infantile ego kept in balance. Pelosi said:
It’s like a manhood thing with him — as if manhood can be associated with him. This wall thing.”
This is far from the first time Trump has erupted after a meeting and made a mess of the White House. Throwing papers around is exactly what toddlers do — and that’s exactly what Trump is.
