There’s nothing any Resister would like more than to wake up one day and find that Donald Trump was no longer President. Unfortunately, we’re pretty sure a resignation is out of the question at this point. But it might be enough to spark the same kind of relief if we simply knew that he wasn’t going to run again in 2020.
If that still seems unlikely to you, especially given his constant lies about his dismal approval (and disapproval) ratings and never-flagging arrogance, maybe this interview on the Ray D’Arcy Show on Ireland’s RTÉ One network with Trump’s former wife — and the mother to three of his five children — will shift your thinking.
When the host asked Ivana Trump, mother to Don Jr., Ivanka, and Eric, whether she thought the elder Trump would run for office again, she had this to say:
I tell you, I think he’s missing a little bit of his old life. You know he was in Trump Tower, and he would go to Mar-a-Lago, he would go to play golf on Westchester, and things like that. Now… from eight o’clock in the morning to midnight, he’s working, working, working, and everybody shoves at him the problem of the country. I don’t envy him. I think he must be freaking exhausted. I would be too!
D’Arcy pressed further, asking her, “Did he tell you that he missed his old life?”
I think so. I think so, yeah.”
Trump has kept in contact with his ex for years, even hosting her wedding to another husband at Mar-a-Lago years ago. Both have indicated that at the very least they talk all the time due to the kids. But it would be utterly unsurprising for Donald to have let something like this slip in conversation with a woman he shared his life with for years.
