Donald Trump, fully aware that his approval rating is now lower than its been all year, made a desperate move to seem less of a terrible person today during an event at the White House, and he still failed to cover up his true colors.
As the White House held a celebration of Diwali earlier today, Trump tried to tweet about the event to seem less racist to America and failed miserably. Unable to muster up any hint of competence or resemblance to someone who cares about others, Trump excluded Hindus from the event — three times.
Trump’s self-created disaster began when he tweeted:
Today, we gathered for Diwali, a holiday observed by Buddhists, Sikhs, and Jains throughout the United States & around the world.”

As usual, Trump is clueless about this holiday because it’s about people who aren’t white. Hindus are the largest religious group that celebrates Diwali — totaling up to a billion people worldwide — and Trump totally excluded them from his post.
People on Twitter began pointing out that Trump’s tweeted had left out Hindus, and the tweet was taken down. The tweet Trump replaced it with also left out Hindus — again.

It seriously took Trump THREE times before he even mentioned Hindus — in a followup tweet, where the president said it was “my great honor to host a celebration of Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights.”
