If the story inside this week’s TIME Magazine is true, Donald Trump has a much, much thicker skull than we’ve been led to believe — not physically, of course, but in terms of what he believes is the key not only to political success but to his reelection in 2020.

In the interview he did with the magazine, he made it clear that his intention is to simply continue firing up the people that already support him, rather than attempting to win over new voters. Now, that could be perceived as either very smart or very dumb, I suppose: Dumb in that counting on sheer numbers rather than an electoral win wouldn’t have won him the presidency in the first place — since he lost the popular vote — but perhaps smart in that he knows every person in America who’s ever going to support him already does.

There is simply no winning over voters with either policy or logic that comes out of Trumpville.

But depicting Trump with a thick skull wasn’t really an option for the magazine. Aside from being a figure of speech, it’s clear that the President himself directed the Photoshopping of his picture on the cover.

Longer hair to match his longer fingers, a well-fitted suit, and what appears to be about 60 missing pounds all complement Trump’s Winston Churchill-invoking pose atop the legendary Resolute Desk. Twitter users were both angry and bemused:

As Trump wagers the future of America — with other people’s money — TIME Magazine was busy letting him direct their art department to make him look on their cover the way he must look in his own head.
