A hell of a lot of insanity has happened since the Democrats took over the House. In a temper tantrum that is still ongoing, the president has been in an nonstop battle with the Democrats over his beloved racist wall. The president even shut down the government for over a month in protest, and most recently declared a national emergency over it.
The mounting stress that Trump is under has caused him to do some very ridiculous things. One of our favorite moments to look back on is when the president humiliated himself in the press briefing room earlier this year to rant about how much his supporters wanted his racist border wall. During this rant, the president lied about how his supporters have been calling him and sending him tweets and letters about how badly they want it. And as usual, this was a lie — at least the calling part of it. Trump said:
The people of our country want it. I have never had so much support as I have in the last week over my stance for border security, for border control and for frankly the wall or the barrier. I have never had anything like it in terms of calls coming in, in terms of people writing in and tweeting and doing whatever they have to do. I have never had this much support and we’ve done some things as you know that have been very popular.”
However, conservative CNN commentator Bill Kristol pointed out that Trump couldn’t possibly have gotten any calls from his supporters — because thanks to his own government shutdown during that time, the White House switchboard was closed! Therefore, everyday Americans had absolutely no way to reach their president.
This moment proved that Trump will say basically anything to make his wall idea look better. According to a CBS poll, the majority of Americans have stated they do NOT want the border wall — especially if Mexico isn’t going to foot the bill, which was one of Trump’s major promises. Trump knows he’s on thin ice and as usual, he must resort to pathetic lies to save himself.
