Donald Trump has become more unhinged than ever before now that one of his supporters has been linked to the mail bombings that targeted several high profile Democrats and Trump critics. Clearly nervous about midterms and what the turnout is going to be for the struggling Republican Party, the president is doubling down on his attacks on the media and doing whatever he can to invigorate his fanbase and hold onto every voter.
Earlier today, Trump sent out yet another of his very unpresidential tweets, sharing a story from right-wing website Breitbart, which was titled “Donald Trump Thunders at Media for Trying to Smear His Supporters after Bomb Scares” and was about his attacks on the media during last night’s rally. The Breitbart story reported:
Trump condemned political violence and called for an end to the politics of personal destruction, especially from the media.
‘Political violence must never ever be allowed in America and I’ll do everything in my power to stop it,’ he said. ‘The media has a major role to play, whether they want to or not.’
The president paused as his supporters continued to chant ‘CNN SUCKS!’
‘They have a major role to play as far as tone, as far as everything,’ Trump said. ‘The media’s constant unfair coverage, deep hostility, and negative attacks only serve to drive people apart and to undermine healthy debate.'”
Really, we can’t think of a more pathetic way for Trump to try and make himself seem powerful to his supporters and deny that his hateful, divisive rhetoric was responsible for this attack.
Cesar Sayoc, the man who was arrested in connection to the pipe bombings, was a passionate Trump supporter with a history of attacking CNN and Democrats on and off of social media — much like the president. And yet, Trump is refusing to call out this behavior and making Trump supporters believe that THEY are the victims. Here’s the president’s disgraceful tweet:
