Once again, Donald Trump appeared to have no idea what he was doing or who he was speaking to in yet another made-for-TV moment engineered by his PR team — who really should have this figured out by now.
Trump hosted a group of survivors of religious persecution in the Oval Office during a scripted “impromptu” meeting that took place Wednesday during a major State Department briefing, which was suspended briefly to afford the President time for his photo-op with the group.
In an exchange that left little doubt that Trump has no time for world affairs unless he personally is embroiled in them — not should be, but is — Trump was perplexed as to who perhaps the most high-profile of his guests was, Iraqi-Yazidi human rights activist Nadia Murad, as she told the story of her family’s suffering and the heartbreak of her people over the still-missing 3,000 Yazidis.
And you had the Nobel Prize? That’s incredible. They gave it to you for what reason?”
Ms. Murad once again told the President of the murder of her mother and six brothers at the hands of ISIS, and how she refused to back down from the terror group as she spread the truth about ISIS:
After all this happened to me, I didn’t give up. I make it clear to everyone that ISIS raped thousands of Yazidi women. Please do something. It’s not about one family.”
Perhaps Trump forgot the news of her receiving the Nobel Prize last year because of the “most beautiful copy” of a five-page nomination letter for this year’s prize he claims he was given by Japan’s PM Shinzo Abe. Abe himself has declined to say whether he actually did nominate Trump for a Nobel, but we’re certain that Trump is aware of the nomination he got from two members of Norway’s anti-immigration, right-wing Progress Party, who proudly publicized their support for him.
Trump continued to struggle with facts as he spoke with Ms. Murad, who asked him to pressure the Iraqi and Kurdish governments to create safe passage for Yazidis. “I know the area very well,” he reassured her, after asking the Nobel laureate, “ISIS is gone and now it’s Kurdish and who?”
