In case you’ve been living under a rock the last few days and didn’t already know it, Donald Trump referred to Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex and wife of Prince Harry as “nasty” in an interview before his departure for the UK. Specifically, when he was questioned about Markle’s comments during his 2016 presidential campaign, in which she stated that Trump was “misogynistic” and “divisive” and pledged her vote for Hilary, he replied “I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty.”
The royal family wasn’t all too keen on Trump, to begin with, but since his comments in the interview, Prince Harry has been quite standoffish, and Meghan won’t be meeting with him at all due to maternity leave.
But now, in a new interview with none other than reigning supreme dickhead Piers Morgan, Trump went on record to defend his statement against the Duchess, claimed that the whole entire world just misinterpreted what he said, and even admitted that he almost confronted Prince Harry about the whole ordeal — which we can only imagine really would have ended up pretty “nasty.”
“She was nasty to me, and that’s okay for her to be nasty,” Trump defended to Morgan in an advanced copy of the transcript released by Good Morning Britain. “It’s not good for me to be nasty to her and I wasn’t.” We’re just wondering — is that the presidential version of, “But she started it!”
Trump also told Morgan that he had intended to bring up the subject with Prince Harry when they met at Buckingham Palace on Monday.
“We didn’t talk about it,” Trump told Piers. “I was going to because it was so falsely put out there.”
Trump has attempted to completely deny saying such an awful thing about the Duchess of Sussex but seems to be switching into the “misinterpretation” lane after a video recording of him was released.
While we’re glad that Trump refrained from making an even bigger ass out of himself, I can’t really say that I wouldn’t have liked to see Harry’s reaction to that.
