As if he wasn’t already a terrible enough human being, Donald Trump has developed a new hobby that he has no intention of quitting — he loves attacking people who have passed away and are no longer able to defend themselves from his attacks. We saw revolting evidence of this with Senator John McCain, and now the president has broadened his victims to include the prominent former First Lady Barbara Bush. If Trump was trying to stay on the good side of his own party, this was not the way to do it.
The biography The Matriarch: Barbara Bush and the Making of an American Dynasty was recently released, and in the book, it detailed how Bush felt about Trump and her criticism for him. Always far more thin-skinned and childish than he’ll ever admit to being, Trump has fired back in response.
Stating that he wasn’t surprised by her criticism, Trump decided to remind everyone that he’d beaten her son Jeb for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. Trump said in an interview with the Washington Times:
I have heard that she was nasty to me, but she should be. Look what I did to her sons.”
The Donald really can’t let anyone just rest in peace and back off. Instead, he’s determined to make the remaining, mourning relatives suffer as he drags their late family members in very public ways. It is an absolute disgrace.
Trump is likely furious about what Bush said in that book. In the biography, Bush blamed the worsening of her congestive heart failure and chronic pulmonary disease on Trump and also said she’d “probably say no” when asked if she still considered herself a Republican — all thanks to Trump! Bush said of Trump’s election:
I’m trying not to think about it. We’re a strong country, and I think it will all work out.”
It’s a shame Trump never does anything useful with his criticism. If he did, he’d be a much better president.
