Donald Trump will never be able to live down how badly he messed up his response to the passing of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).
In the days after McCain’s death, Trump has royally screwed up repeatedly, from refusing to approve a White House statement honoring McCain as a “hero” to refusing to keep the White House flag half-staff to honor the Republican Senator. Trump created a PR nightmare for his entire team, and unfortunately White House Press Secretary got the worst of it.
Proving that Trump is a sociopath, the president basically tortured Sanders by refusing to give any decent responses. Even yesterday, on the day of McCain’s memorial service, Trump couldn’t show any human decency to a man who has contributed so much to America. Bloomberg reported on one very disturbing encounter between Sanders and Trump yesterday, where Trump’s hatred for McCain was so blatant that all Sanders could do was stare at him in shock when Trump was asked if McCain would have been a better president than Obama:
Asked if McCain would have been a better president, Trump declined to say, even as his press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, stared at him.
‘I don’t want to comment on it,’ he said. ‘I have a very strong opinion, all right.’
Sanders, he joked, was ‘having a nervous breakdown’ over his response. ‘Maybe I’ll give you that answer some day later.’”
Trump never liked Obama and actively tried to disprove his citizenship — so for Trump to be unable to say McCain would have been a better POTUS speaks volumes about Trump’s immaturity and the animosity he has for McCain. It’s no wonder Sanders couldn’t believe her ears.
Sanders has been disgusted with Trump’s mishandling of this whole thing and seems to resent that she needs to defend him. In other interviews, Sanders has called McCain an “American hero” and said his death was “a great loss” for our country.
