Donald Trump has caused his team to freak out many times over his irresponsible tweets, but award-winning journalist Bob Woodward has just exposed a MAJOR f*ck up by the president that made the Pentagon go into a panic.
Apparently, Trump had drafted a tweet that was so damaging that the Pentagon lost it when they saw it and had to act quickly to make sure it never got posted. Woodward stated that if the president posted the tweet, it could have started a war with North Korea.
In an interview with CBS, Woodward explained Trump’s disastrous tweet:
He drafts a tweet saying ‘We are going to pull out dependents from South Korea … Family members of the 28,000 people there.'”
This was extremely inflammatory, considering there was a backchannel message from North Korea that stated that bringing family members home would be taken as a sign of a future attack from the U.S. Woodward said:
At that moment there was a sense of profound alarm in the Pentagon leadership that, ‘My God, one tweet and we have reliable information that the North Koreans are going to read this as an attack is imminent.'”
Woodward wrote in his book that this drafted tweet “scared the daylights” out of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford. Especially considering that at the time, Trump and North Korean President Kim Jong Un were regularly attacking each other, with Trump continuing to push the envelope by calling Kim “Little Rocket Man” and bragging about how much “bigger & more powerful” his nuclear button was.
It’s easy to see why the Pentagon would lose its sh*t and immediately try to pull the plug on this tweet. Although no one should be relaxing, because news is just getting out that North Korea has every intention of keeping its nuclear weapons, despite Trump bragging about how the nation was denuclearizing. The Pentagon may soon be panicking again.
