There have been a lot of embarrassing losses in Donald Trump’s presidency, but this one has got to be one of the worst. Donald Trump, the man who pretty much built his campaign on the promise of racism and constructing a border wall to keep immigrants out of the country, is currently having to walk back his one of his biggest campaign points in front of his followers — and things keep looking worse for him.
The U.S. government has been partially shut down for a week now, and there’s no sign of it ending anytime soon. Fox News has recently reported that despite Trump’s attempts to negotiate with Democrats while still championing his racist border wall, nothing is working out for the president. Most recently, Trump decreased his demand for a $5 billion budget demand for his border wall to $2.5 billion — and he still failed to get any support. Still, Trump refuses to accept that his border wall isn’t ever going to be a thing.
Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said:
We put the last offer on the table. In a negotiation…you don’t make an offer, and then make another offer, and another offer. We made an offer last Saturday night, and they told us they’d get back to us by the end of the week. They got back to us last night and said, ‘We’re leaving.’”
Drew Hammill, the deputy Chief of Staff for House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), also spoke on Trump’s latest offer. He stated that Democrats would surely support reasonable border security, but Trump’s “immoral, ineffective and expensive wall” was not something they would support no matter how much Trump cuts the price tag.
