Donald Trump is doing his best to send a disgusting message of white supremacy to his gullible fanbase, fear-mongering about this caravan of “terrorists” every chance he gets. Trump’s lies and irresponsible hate speech is getting terrifying and may soon have some very serious consequences — because once again, the president is calling for violence.
While speaking about immigration at the White House today, Trump answered a question about whether or not he thought the military might open fire on the migrants making their way to the border. The way Trump responded was scary — he pretty much encouraged violence. He said:
I will tell you this, anybody throwing stones, rocks, like they did to Mexico and the Mexican military, Mexican police, where they badly hurt police and soldiers of Mexico, we will consider that a firearm. Because there’s not much difference. When you get hit in the face with a rock, which as you know, that was very violent a few days ago. Very, very violent.”
And Trump didn’t back down. In fact, he later made an even more direct statement, saying that he would liken a rock to a gun:
They’re throwing rocks, viciously, and violently. You saw that three days ago. Really hurting the military. We’re not going to put up with that. They want to throw rocks at our military, our military fights back. We’re gonna consider, and I told them consider it a rifle. When they throw rocks like they did at the Mexico military and police, I say consider it a rifle.”
This is such irresponsible, dangerous language coming from the President of the United States – who has clearly learned nothing about the consequences of hate speech following the Pittsburgh shooting (and many other attacks carried out by his racist supporters). You can watch the video below:
Just last week, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said this about the military shooting at migrants:
We do not have any intention right now to shoot at people…They will be apprehended, however.”
It seems that the president has changed his mind.
