Donald Trump has gotten such negative press over the last several days that the president is apparently willing to do anything to get back in America’s good graces — even if it means admitting that he’s wrong.
Trump, who seemed to not even know how to acknowledge he’d made a terrible mistake before this moment, was tricked into admitting he f*cked up during an interview with Fox News’ Chris Wallace. During an interview which is set to air this weekend, Trump made the rare admission that he should have attended the ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans Day. Of course, Trump first tried to give America a pathetic excuse and justification for why he didn’t go:
I should have done that. I was extremely busy on calls for the country, we did a lot of calling as you know.”
But Wallace cornered the president. Wallace said, “But this is Veterans Day.” Trump felt he was up against the wall, and he crumbled. Giving a half-ass apology to his constituents, Trump admitted that he “could have” and “should have” been at Arlington Cemetery. He said:
I could have done that. As you know I just left the day before the American Cemetery and I probably think — and that was one where it was raining as hard as you can imagine and I made a speech at the American Cemetery the day before. And I probably, you know, in retrospect, I should have. And I did last year, and I will virtually every year. But we had come in very late at night and I had just left, literally, the American Cemetery in Paris. And I really probably assumed that was fine and I was extremely busy because of affairs of state — doing other things.”
Trump likely didn’t feel any remorse and was probably just saving face, but it was a rare admission nonetheless, and one his supporters can’t ignore. It seems that Trump has to be pummeled tirelessly and given no way out by the media before he actually admits he f*cked up. Absolutely pathetic.
