Trump Becomes First President In Recent Years Not Allowed To Stay At Palace During Visit With The Queen

There's no room in the Palace for the Trumps.

Donald Trump has weaseled his way back into Great Britain for another state visit this year, and so far he hasn’t even rescheduled it this time. But once he gets there he certainly shouldn’t expect the warm welcome that his predecessor, former POTUS Barack Obama, and first lady Michelle, got on their visit. In addition to the fact that they’re already brushing off the Trump baby blimp and gearing up for another round of massive protests, it turns out that Trump won’t even be granted the luxury of staying with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

As of now, president Trump and first lady Melania are scheduled to visit the UK from June 3rd through the 5th, ending with the D-Day anniversary commemoration. But Trump and his wife will have no home at the palace while they’re there — as refurbishment work currently being done at Buckingham will not leave enough room for the president, the first lady, and their entire, massive entourage that comes with them.

A senior Palace source stated:

“As Buckingham Palace is undergoing a massive renovation it’s just not possible to accommodate President Trump, the First Lady, and all his entourage. The entire east wing of the Palace is under reconstruction. Thousands of pieces from the royal collection have been removed and major plumbing and electrical works are taking place. The Belgian Suite, where former President Barack Obama stayed and which is not in the part of the east wing is not closed but the logistics for having people all spread out over the building is just not practical. All lunches and state banquets which will host the President and his wife will take place in Buckingham Palace as normal.”

While this sounds innocent enough — I mean, it’s construction work, right? — it’s worth noting that Trump was downgraded the last time he made an appearance in the UK as well, with his trip being reduced to a “working visit” without all of the customary bells and whistles that come with a traditional state visit.

Maybe they are just doing some renovations, Trump. But maybe, just maybe, the Queen just doesn’t want you in her house.
