The GOP is in chaos right now.

Donald Trump’s behavior in regard to the sexual assault allegations that his Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, is facing has been disgusting to say the least. The Republican Party has been trying to stay together during this very damaging time for the party, but after what happened last night at Trump’s rally, the GOP has become more divided than ever.

On Tuesday night, the nation watched in shock as Trump mocked Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the first woman to come forward and accuse Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her. Trump brutally made fun of Ford for not being able to remember specific details about her sexual assault, even though that is completely normal for people who have suffered a traumatic experience. Trump joked:

What neighborhood was it in? I don’t know. Where’s the house? I don’t know. Upstairs, downstairs, where was it? I don’t know. But I had one beer. That’s the only thing I remember. And a man’s life is in tatters.”

Disgusted beyond belief, Republican Senators Jeff Flake and Susan Collins are speaking out against the president for his vile insensitivity. In an interview with NBC, Flake said:

There’s no time and no place for remarks like that, that discuss something this sensitive at a political rally. It’s just not right. I wish he hadn’t … done it. I just say it’s kind of appalling.”

Collins agreed and told reporters:

The president’s comments were just plain wrong.”

These comments from Flake and Collins could be big trouble for Kavanaugh’s nomination, as Republicans currently control the Senate 51-49. The GOP cannot afford to lost votes right now, but Trump seems to be sabotaging all efforts to hold onto them. It seems that as time passes and Trump acts out, the president is only making more Republicans want to vote against Kavanaugh, even though his goal is the opposite. When all of this is over, Trump is going to be even more hated by his own party.
