Even over a year and a half into his presidency, Donald Trump has failed to become everyone’s president or win the respect of the majority of Americans who voted against him. More than ever, most of the country misses having a real president who they could be proud of — like the man Trump fears most, former president Barack Obama.
Everyone knows that Trump is more jealous of his predecessor than anyone else. Trump has repeatedly tried to soil Obama’s reputation by repeatedly attacking the former POTUS, but he always makes himself look worse instead. Trump will never be able to fill Obama’s shoes, and he will never possess the grace and poise that Obama has naturally. Even when Obama strikes back at Trump, it always comes across as classy (unlike Trump, who comes across as a schoolyard bully).
A perfect example of this is when Obama basically summed up Trump’s entire presidency in two sentences, without even saying Trump’s name. It was a brilliant moment, in which Obama showed America exactly why Trump was failing. Speaking to a huge crowd, Obama said to an audience that erupted in applause:
If you have to win a campaign by dividing people, you’re not going to be able to govern them. You won’t be able to unite them later if that’s how you start.”

No one could have said it better. Trump set himself up for failure with a divisive presidential campaign from the beginning, ensuring he would sink even before he stepped foot in the White House. Trump has no idea how to unite or lead, which is something that comes naturally to Obama. This is exactly why Trump needs to soothe his jealousy with unprovoked attacks on his predecessor, which only make him look worse.
