The resistance is in full swing, ensuring that President Donald Trump does not forget his mishaps and the misfortunes of his inner circle.
The words “guilty” and “criminal” were projected above an entrance of the Trump International Hotel in Washington DC, along with “FELONS WELCOME HERE.” These words were projected after what was a busy legal day that established Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and personal attorney Michael Cohen as serious criminals.
American Bridge is the Democratic super PAC that masterminded the protest. Partnering up with visual artist Robin Bell, the projection is part of several other projections calling Trump a pig and a racist that has illuminated the hotel in the past.
“One of the secrets to what we do and how we’ve been able to pull it off is that we’re transparent,” Bell informed The Associated Press. “We’re not hiding anything.”
Cohen admitted guilt on eight counts of financial crimes in federal court. The guilty plea followed months of deliberation over past materials seized in FBI raids back in April. Cohen pleaded guilty to the charges as part of a plea deal, in which he can receive up to six years in prison. Cohen has admitted to tax fraud and evading personal income tax between 2012 in 2016. He also made false statements to financial institutions, unlawful corporate contributions, and excessive campaign contributions in October 2016.
Manafort faces up to nine years in prison, and possibly more after breaking his cooperation agreement. The prosecution buried the defendant in a deep trench of emails, tax returns, testimonies from bankers, bank statements, and declarations from Manafort’s partner, Rick Gates.
Manafort came to the Trump campaign with ties to Russian individuals and was one of the only non-Trump family members to participate in the June 2016 Trump tower meeting with a Russian government lawyer, which was set up to obtain incriminating information about their opponent, Hillary Clinton. Manafort is being charged with submitting false income tax returns, failing to file foreign bank account reports, and bank fraud and conspiracy.
As for the message on the Trump International Hotel? We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
